A Moment in Nature, Captured in Silver

Sometimes a piece begins with something as simple as a connection online.
This brooch was created for a client who had come across my work on Facebook. She was particularly drawn to the pieces where I use real leaves, preserving their delicate details in silver using metal clay. There’s something quite special about taking something so fleeting in nature and turning it into something lasting.
She knew she wanted a statement piece - something bold, but still organic and true to the original form.
Together, we chose a beautifully shaped leaf, larger than those I would usually work with at around 5.5cm. Its veins, edges, and natural imperfections all became part of the final design. Using silver metal clay paste, I carefully captured every detail, allowing the natural structure of the leaf to lead the piece rather than overpower it.
"A moment in nature, held still."
Once fired, what remains is pure silver - but with every fine line and texture of the original leaf preserved. A moment in nature, held still.
The final piece was made as a brooch, designed to be worn and noticed. It has a quiet strength to it - organic, elegant, and completely individual.

Most importantly, she loves it!
And that, for me, is always the most meaningful part - creating something that resonates, that feels personal, and that will be worn and treasured for years to come.
